The Hurva is located in the center of the Jewish Quarter, on the ÒWestern HillÓ which is known to have been the residential area of the priests of JerusalemÕs 2nd Temple until year 70. The Hurva was established in the early 18th century by Rabbi Yehuda a leader of the Hassidic community at the time. It was burned to the ground in 1729 by Arab arsonists and ever since was nicknamed by the community as the Hurva Ð meaning The Ruin.
